The right back position is more demanding than ever in the modern game, but as its evolution has been in the works for a good decade now, plenty of wonderkids are now proving themselves fit for the role.
Here, you’ll find all of the best FIFA RB and RWB wonderkids to sign in Career Mode.
Choosing FIFA 22 Career Mode’s best wonderkid right backs (RB & RWB)
Loaded with the likes of Devyne Rensch, Reece James, and Jayden Bogle, there are some superb wonderkids to sign in FIFA 22 Career Mode to grow into the right back or right wing-back position.
To choose the best RB wonderkids, we narrowed down the search to players with at least a potential rating of 81, those who are 21-years-old or younger, and have RB or RWB listed as their preferred position.
At the foot of the page, you’ll find a full list of all of the best young wonderkid RB & RWB in FIFA 22.
1. Reece James (81 OVR – 86 POT)
Team: Chelsea
Age: 21
Wage: £65,000
Value: £32 million
Best Attributes: 86 Crossing, 85 Balance, 83 Strength
Coming in as the best wonderkid right back to sign in FIFA 22 Career Mode, Reece James boasts a hefty 81 overall rating from the start of the game, and can grow into his even more impressive 86 potential rating.
Listed as preferring the RWB position, James is an excellent brute force option down the right side or even in the middle of the park. His 83 strength, 82 sprint speed, 80 standing tackle, 86 crossing, and 82 curve make the Englishman both a brick wall without the ball and a superb feeder higher up the pitch.
The London lad was one of the few players who didn’t skip a beat when Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard last season – despite Lampard’s focusbeing to bring through youth players. The German saw the utility of James, continuing to play him down the right flank with him eventually clocking in 47 games in 2020/21.
2. Devyne Rensch (73 OVR – 85 POT)
Team: Ajax
Age: 18
Wage: £2,900
Value: £6 million
Best Attributes: 82 Sprint Speed, 79 Acceleration, 77 Jumping
With James listed as a RWB, Devyne Rensch comes in as the best RB wonderkid in FIFA 22, featuring a lofty 85 potential overall rating at the young age of 18-years-old.
As you’d expect from a teenage wonderkid, pace is Rensch’s main asset. The Dutchman already boasts 82 sprint speed, 79 acceleration, and 74 agility, but his 72 ball control ensures that he’s just as useful on the ball as he is fast without it at his feet.
While rarely being given the full 90 minutes, Rensch certainly laid claim to a starting spot for Ajax last season, both at left back and right back. With 18 Eredivisie games under his belt in 2020/21, the Netherlands head coach, Louis van Gaal, saw fit to call him up to the national team, giving him his debut against Turkey.
3. Jayden Bogle (74 OVR – 85 POT)
Team: Sheffield United
Age: 21
Wage: £14,000
Value: £8 million
Best Attributes: 81 Acceleration, 81 Sprint Speed, 76 Agility
Brought over from Derby County in 2020, Sheffield United have refined the incredibly talented Jayden Bogle, leading to FIFA 22 marking him up as one of the best wonderkid right backs in Career Mode.
Bogle is a very attack-minded full-back, with his attribute ratings allowing him to assault opposing defences relentlessly in each game. Powered by his 76 stamina, the English wonderkid’s 81 acceleration, 81 sprint speed, 76 agility, 74 dribbling, and 74 attack positioning make him a menace at RB or RWB.
For the Blades, Bogle is working his way towards regular first-team football in the Championship. Last season, in the Premier League, he featured regularly down the left and right flank.
4. Sergiño Dest (76 OVR – 85 POT)
Team: FC Barcelona
Age: 20
Wage: £57,000
Value: £13.5 million
Best Attributes: 89 Acceleration, 88 Agility, 86 Sprint Speed
Many of the best RB wonderkids in FIFA 22 boast pace to burn, but Sergiño Dest takes this to another level. Most importantly, though, he’s already a 76-overall defender at 20-years-old, and can grow to 85 overall.
The Dutch-born American is all about getting up and down the flank at speed. His highlight attributes are 89 acceleration, 88 agility, 86 sprint speed, and 80 stamina. Once Dest has the ball, his 83 dribbling and 77 ball control make him difficult to stop.
Despite only been at Camp Nou for little more than one season, Dest has already racked up 45 appearances, scoring thrice and assisting once by this mark. He’s set to be a cornerstone of the colossal rebuild required at Barcelona, with the lack of competition allowing him to get more minutes and flourish.
5. Tariq Lamptey (74 OVR – 84 POT)
Team: Brighton & Hove Albion
Age: 20
Wage: £25,000
Value: £7.5 million
Best Attributes: 95 Balance, 92 Acceleration, 83 Sprint Speed
If Tariq Lamptey remained in the Chelsea ranks, he or James might not have received the minutes necessary for them both to emerge as top-class prospects at the right back position.
Standing 5’4’’ with a preference for the RWB role, Lamptey is one of the toughest players to catch in FIFA 22, let alone among right back wonderkids. His 75 dribbling, 82 agility, 83 sprint speed, 95 balance, and 92 acceleration make him a tricky adversary – with those key ratings only improving with each season.
If a hamstring injury hadn’t stopped him in his tracks, the Brighton full-back was looking good to make it into the Premier League Team of the Year last season, being very impressive through 11 games. Working his way back from injury to open this season, he’ll look to add to his one goal and four assists for the Seagulls.
Team: Feyenoord
Age: 21
Wage: £6,400
Value: £14 million
Best Attributes: 88 Jumping, 83 Heading Accuracy, 80 Sprint Speed
If you want a player in a more traditional build as your wonderkid right back signing in FIFA 22, you can’t go wrong with Lutsharel Geertruida.
The 21-year-old Dutchman has attribute ratings that liken him to what would now be seen as a stay-at-home right back. His 88 jumping, 83 heading accuracy, 78 standing tackle, and 76 stamina make him a grand extension of the backline, but his 80 sprint speed and 79 acceleration also enable him to power forward on occasion.
Last season, Geertruida broke out in a considerable way, cementing himself as Feyenoord’s go-to right back. He ended the campaign with 30 appearances in the Eredivisie, which yielded five goals and two assists.
7. Hugo Siquet (70 OVR – 83 POT)
Team: Standard Liège
Age: 19
Wage: £3,800
Value: £3.1 million
Best Attributes: 80 Crossing, 77 Sprint Speed, 77 Curve
Only 19-years-old and with a potential overall rating of 83, Hugo Siquet makes it onto this list of the best wonderkid right backs in FIFA 22.
The Belgian may only have a 70 overall rating, but he has several highly-graded attributes that make him more useful than his OVR would suggest. Siquet’s highlights are his 80 crossing, 77 curve, and 77 sprint speed.
Through the second half of last season, Siquet emerged as Standard Liège’s first-choice option at right back, setting up five goals through his 16 showings. This season, he’s maintained his place in the starting XI through the early games.
