- 8 All of the best young wonderkids FIFA 22 Goalkeepers
Goalkeepers are very much the unsung heroes of football: just one slip up can mean the difference between points or a loss, and yet dominant performances are infrequently credited with Man of the Match awards.
As a general rule, goalies get better with age, but in FIFA, it’s all about the ratings on the day. As such, putting up with a developing goalkeeper for a couple of seasons can have a huge payout if they progress as hoped.
So here, you can see all of the best wonderkids’ FIFA 22 goalkeepers to sign in Career Mode.
Choosing the best young wonderkids FIFA 22 goalkeepers in Career Mode
From regular starters to the game’s free agents, there’s plenty of value to found in cost-effective wonderkid goalies in FIFA 22, with Diogo Costa, Illan Meslier, and Maarten Vandevoordt headlining the class.
To qualify as one of the best GK wonderkids to sign in Career Mode, the players have to be under 21 years of age, have a minimum potential rating of 80, and, naturally, have goalkeeper as their preferred position.
At the bottom of this page, you can see the full list of all of the best goalkeeper (GK) wonderkids in FIFA 22.
1. Maarten Vandevoordt (71 OVR – 87 POT)

Team: KRC Genk
Age: 19
Wage: £3,100
Value: £4.2 million
Best Attributes: 74 GK Diving, 73 GK Reflexes, 71 Reactions
At 19-years-old and with a potential rating of 87, the best GK wonderkid in FIFA 22 is Maarten Vandevoordt.
Standing 6’3’’ with a decent overall rating to start Career Mode, teams with assured outfields could take the risk and start Vandevoordt. His 74 diving, 73 reflexes, 71 reactions, and 70 handling are rather strong for such a young goalie, but he likely won’t be able to win you any games just yet.
Last season, the Belgian became KRC Genk’s first-choice goalie for the final eight games of the Jupiler Pro League. Now, for 2021/22, the club has trusted the crease to Vandevoordt exclusively, with him starting all of the opening games of the campaign.
2. Lautaro Morales (72 OVR – 85 POT)

Team: Lanús
Age: 21
Wage: £5,100
Value: £4.4 million
Best Attributes: 74 GK Positioning, 73 GK Reflexes, 71 GK Diving
With just a two-point drop from the top pick, Lautaro Morales and his 85 potential rating manage to rank second in this list of the best wonderkid goalkeepers in FIFA 22.
The Argentine stands 6’2’’ and has some useful attribute ratings despite being a 72-overall GK. Morales’ 74 positioning, 71 diving, 69 kicking, 70 handling, 69 jumping, and 72 reflexes all show signs of the young player becoming top-class down the line.
For Club Atlético Lanús, Morales featured as the team’s starter last season, keeping five clean sheets in 18 games. This season, however, he’s become Lucas Acosta’s back-up.
3. Illan Meslier (77 OVR – 85 POT)

Team: Leeds United
Age: 21
Wage: £31,000
Value: £21 million
Best Attributes: 81 GK Reflexes, 79 GK Diving, 76 GK Handling
Easily the best young player on this list in regards to overall and attribute ratings, Illan Meslier’s 85 potential is the main reason why Career Mode managers would want to sign him.
With a 78 overall rating, the French shot-stopper’s 81 reflexes, 79 diving, 76 handling, 74 kicking, 73 positioning, and 72 reactions make him a decent option in the net. Better still, the 6’5’’ left-footer’s ratings will only improve over the next couple of seasons.
Towards the end of their promotion-winning Championship campaign in 2019/20, Meslier won the starting job from Kiko Casilla, with his efforts making him the de facto choice in the Premier League. Last season, he kept 11 clean sheets in 25 top-flight matches.
4. Diogo Costa (73 OVR – 85 POT)

Team: FC Porto
Age: 21
Wage: £4,500
Value: £5.5 million
Best Attributes: 75 GK Reflexes, 73 GK Positioning, 73 GK Diving
Clocking in with 73 overall rating and 85 potential, Diogo Costa is certainly a young player to add to your shortlist as one of the best GK wonderkids in FIFA 22.
Standing 6’2’’, the Portuguese netminder is valued at £5.5 million, which could end up being a rather favourable price if you can develop him into his potential. Doing this shouldn’t be too trying as Costa already hosts several decent attribute ratings, including his 75 reflexes, 71 handling, and 73 diving.
For much of last season, the Swiss-born goalie was FC Porto’s back-up and cup keeper, but this season, he’s been deployed in the starting XI from the get-go. Through eight games to start the campaign, Costa only conceded four goals and never allowed more than one to breach his coverage in a single match.
5. Charis Chatzigavriel (58 OVR – 84 POT)

Team: Free Agent
Age: 17
Wage: £430
Value: £650,000
Best Attributes: 63 GK Reflexes, 59 Jumping, 69 GK Kicking
All FIFA gamers who buy into wonderkids are looking to earn big on their investments. With Charis Chatzigavriel, not only does he start Career Mode as a free agent, but his 84 potential also makes him one of the best wonderkid goalies in FIFA 22.
The main reason why anyone would sign the Cypriot goalie in-game is because he’s free and has a high potential rating: his current ratings would put your team at risk of conceding multiple times per game. At 17-years-old and 58 overall, there’s not much that Chatzigavriel can do to help a top or second-tier team.
In real life, Chatzigavriel is on the books of Apoel Nicosia and has earned caps for Cyprus at the under-17s and under-19s levels.
6. Giorgi Mamardashvili (75 OVR – 83 POT)

Team: Valencia CF
Age: 20
Wage: £12,000
Value: £9 million
Best Attributes: 79 GK Reflexes, 77 GK Handling, 76 GK Positioning
Standing 6’6’’ at 20 years of age, Giorgi Mamardashvili manages to get into the upper echelons of FIFA 22’s best wonderkid GKs by virtue of his 83 potential rating.
The Valencia goalkeeper already boasts some decent ratings in the key areas for the position. His 79 reflexes, 77 handling, 76 diving, and 76 positioning all indicate a strong goalie in the making.
In real life, Mamardashvili has joined the LaLiga club on a loan deal from Georgian club Dinamo Tbilisi – but as they aren’t in FIFA 22, he’s treated as a Valencia player outright. To start the 2021/22 campaign, Che selected the hefty shot-stopper to be their starting goalie.
7. Joan García (67 OVR – 83 POT)

Team: RCD Espanyol
Age: 20
Wage: £2,600
Value: £2 million
Best Attributes: 68 GK Handling, 67 GK Reflexes, 67 Jumping
Landing seventh on this list of the best goalkeeper wonderkids in FIFA 22 is the Spanish goalie Joan García, who stands 6’4’’ with a potential rating of 83.
He isn’t very serviceable for top-flight clubs from the beginning of Career Mode, with his 67 overall rating not inspiring confidence. That said, his 68 handling and 67 reflexes look to form a sound foundation for the 20-year-old going forward.
While he’s now being brought up to sit as the back-up goalie to 39-year-old Diego López, García’s played most of his matches for RCD Espanyol B in the fourth tier of Spanish football. However, with López’s contract – and Oier Olazábal’s contract – running out this summer, the young Spaniard may be able to muscle his way into the starting job in the not too distant future.
