The typical England fan would tell you that their team just hasn’t lived up to expectation since the World Cup win of 1966. It’s true, England teams of times gone by may not have achieved what they could have, but their next crop looks particularly exciting.
In this article, we’ll be going through the best young English players on FIFA 21 Career Mode. We’ll begin by delving into the top five players with the highest potential, followed by a table with the full list of English wonderkids at the bottom.
Choosing FIFA 21 Career Mode’s best English wonderkids
Potential rules on FIFA 21’s Career Mode when building a team for the future. As a result, this whole article is sorted by potential ratings for both the insight below and the table at the bottom.
For players to meet the criteria, they must be English, aged 21 or under, and have a minimum potential of 81.
Jadon Sancho (OVR 87 – POT 93)

Team: Borussia Dortmund
Best Position: RM, LM, CAM
Age: 20
Overall/Potential: 87 OVR / 93 POT
Value: £111.5 million
Skill Moves: Five-Star
Best Attributes: 92 Dribbling, 91 Ball Control, 91 Agility
With consistent starts over the last two seasons, Sancho has asserted himself as one of the most dangerous attacking players in the Bundesliga. Over that span, he has notched 29 goals and 34 assists.
A player who can play on either side of the attack, he is best starting wide and cutting in to utilise his superior dribbling and technical ability. Jadon Sancho’s attacking attributes are strong across the board.
Not only does the youngster have 92 dribbling and 91 ball control, but he also has 88 short passing, 81 finishing, and 87 vision. The English wonderkid is nimble on the ball, too, thanks to his 91 agility and 90 balance.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (OVR 87 – POT 92)

Team: Liverpool
Best Position: RB
Age: 21
Overall/Potential: 87 OVR / 92 POT
Value: £103 million
Skill Moves: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 93 Crossing, 89 Long Passing, 88 Stamina
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the epitome of the modern full-back. Known more for his attacking prowess than his defensive duties, he excels at putting menacing balls into the box.
He has risen to the top on the back of Liverpool’s success, playing a key part in their Premier League standing over the last couple of seasons. If he continues to perform and grow at the rate he has done, the Englishman will almost certainly establish himself as the best right back in the world.
As mentioned, Alexander-Arnold’s strength is in his ability to pass and put crosses into the box. With 93 crossing, 89 long passing, and 88 curve, he excels in making key passes that give his team opportunities to score.
The right back could also be a player that you train to play further up the pitch. A wing back role would suit his style, but he could also be utilised as a winger, should you focus on improving his dribbling ability.
Marcus Edwards (OVR 77 – POT 89)

Team: Vitória de Guimarāes
Best Position: RW
Age: 21
Overall/Potential: 77 OVR / 89 POT
Value: £23.5 million
Skill Moves: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 92 Agility, 92 Balance, 86 Acceleration
Beginning in Tottenham Hotspur’s youth team, Edwards spent time on-loan with Norwich City and Dutch side Excelsior before moving to Vitoria Guimarāes on a free transfer at the end of last summer.
With consistent starts for the Portuguese side last season, Edwards scored seven goals and created nine assists across 26 games. This season, he will look to build on that success.
Edwards is a slight winger, standing at 5’6” with 35 strength. This is balanced, however, by him being very quick and nimble in FIFA 21, boasting 86 acceleration, 82 sprint speed, 92 agility, and 92 balance.
With 85 dribbling and 81 ball control, he excels in the right areas for a winger: but as he matures, his game should become more rounded.
Mason Greenwood (OVR 77 – POT 89)

Team: Manchester United
Best Position: RM, ST
Age: 19
Overall/Potential: 77 OVR / 89 POT
Value: £22 million
Weak Foot: Five-Star
Best Attributes: 82 Sprint Speed, 82 Shot Power, 80 Long Shots
Emerging from the Manchester United Youth Academy, Mason Greenwood took the opportunity given to him last season when the Red Devils were working out their best line-up. Since then, he has produced consistently, notably scoring five goals in nine Europa League games last season.
Originally brought in as a striker, Greenwood can play on the right-hand side of the attack, as he has done most recently for United. Statistically, he’s more prolific from the middle, and with the position change option on FIFA 21, he could transfer from RM to ST in-game.
With many key attributes on the cusp of the 80-mark, Greenwood looks to be a great striking option for the future. With 79 finishing, 77 positioning, 79 dribbling, and 77 ball control, a small amount of training will bring all of these stats over the 80 threshold.
Right now, his strongest attributes beyond his 82 sprint speed are his 82 shot power and 80 long shots – which bode well as he is still only 19-years-old.
Phil Foden (OVR 79 – POT 88)

Team: Manchester City
Best Position: CAM, CM
Age: 20
Overall/Potential: 79 OVR / 88 POT
Value: £34.5 million
Skill Movies: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 89 Balance, 87 Agility, 83 Ball Control
With David Silva leaving Manchester City in the summer, the door is open for Phil Foden to make his mark in the footballing world. The youth academy graduate has already shown glimpses of how good he can be, and now may be the time to show how consistently he can put those moments into practice.
A versatile midfielder, Foden has played almost every midfield and attacking position throughout his time with City and the youth team. However, he has most commonly played as a central midfielder or an attacking midfielder.
Not blessed with height or strength, standing at 5’7” with 44 strength, Foden is still very mobile, making the most of his 89 balance and 87 agility.
His 83 ball control and 82 short passing are the only other attributes above the 80 threshold. That said, his 79 vision, 78 positioning, 78 dribbling, and 78 reactions are close to making his attributes sheet even more green.
