France has been blessed with riches of world-class talent, typified by the nation’s 2018 World Cup win, which came 20 years after they first won the tournament.
The nation has developed unbelievable players in all positions. In attack, the likes of Thierry Henry frightened Premier League and La Liga defences with his pure class and technical ability. Now-Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was a machine in midfield, and his incredible play with the ball at his feet was like poetry in motion. Even the likes of Marcel Desailly, Patrick Viera, and Eric Cantona were world-class in their own right.
Now, we take a look at the next set of French wonderkids to sign for your FIFA 21 Career Mode. At the foot of the article, you’ll find all of the best French wonderkids in FIFA 21, with those boasting the highest potential rating featuring in the body.
Choosing FIFA 21 Career Mode’s best French wonderkids
The main point of emphasis when selecting a wonderkid is their potential rating once the player has fully developed. For our French wonderkids piece, we decided to focus on players who are 21-year-old or younger and have a potential rating of 81 or higher.
You can find the full list of all of the best French wonderkids to sign in Career Mode near the bottom of the page.
Kylian Mbappé (OVR 90 – POT 95)
Team: Paris Saint-Germain
Overall Rating: 90
Wage: £140K a week
Best Attributes: 96 Acceleration, 96 Sprint Speed, 92 Dribbling
Kylian Mbappé is perhaps the biggest player in French football right now. After another strong Ligue 1 campaign and more domestic glory with Paris Saint-Germain, he certainly deserves the limelight.
It was only five years ago that Mbappé burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old for AS Monaco. Now, he is coming off of an 18-goal league campaign in just 20 appearances, due to the shortened season. The Parisian has also enjoyed a hot start to this season.
FIFA players know exactly what they are getting with Mbappé in their side: excellent 92 dribbling coupled with the blistering pace of 96 acceleration and 96 sprint speed. He also has agility, reactions, and positioning ratings that are all above 90.
Mbappé is a wonderkid in every possible way, and at 21-years-old, he is on the verge of becoming the world’s best. In FIFA 21, if you can afford him, you should do anything that you can to try to get the ultimate French wonderkid in your side.
Dayot Upamecano (OVR 79 – POT 90)
Team: RB Leipzig
Best Position: CB
Overall/Potential: 79 OVR / 90 POT
Value (Release Clause): £33M (£62.7M)
Wage: £32K a week
Best Attributes: 90 Strength, 88 Jumping, 84 Sprint Speed
One player who was expected to leave well before the transfer window closed was Dayot Upamecano. However, indicative of Arsenal since the end of the Arsène Wenger era, they couldn’t close the deal on the talented young Frenchman.
Instead, Upamecano will continue to develop into the excellent centre-back that he is and spearhead one of the best defences in the Bundesliga.
Strong, powerful, and athletic is the best way to describe Upamecano in FIFA 21. His 90 strength, 88 jumping, and 84 sprint speed are fantastic assets to have in a centre-back. They combine to allow the Frenchman to battle a physical striker as well as challenge those who are gifted with more pace.
Whilst Upamecano hasn’t enjoyed much domestic success in Germany, he has already become a star in the league. If you are looking for a wonderkid centre back, Upamecano has to be high on your list.
Ibrahima Konaté (OVR 78 – POT 88)
Team: RB Leipzig
Best Position: CB
Overall/Potential: 78 OVR / 88 POT
Value (Release Clause): £26.5M (£50.3M)
Wage: £29K a week
Best Attributes: 85 Standing Tackle, 83 Strength, 79 Sprint Speed
Ibrahima Konaté is perhaps the hard-luck story of the top five French wonderkids, but the talent he has is more than apparent.
Konaté has been struck down by injuries on numerous occasions in his Leipzig career so far. Last season, Konaté only managed 11 appearances in all competitions, with he Parisian sidelined on two separate occasions.
When he did feature in the Bundesliga, Leipzig took an average of 2.38 points per game, showcasing his importance to Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
In many ways, Konaté is very similar to his Leipzig teammate, Upamecano, with the major difference being that Konaté’s best attribute is his 85 standing tackle (85).
Konaté is the cheaper of the two Leipzig defenders, but this doesn’t make him any less of a player. The Parisian can be a great French wonderkid for you to add to your FIFA 21 Career Mode team.
Rayan Cherki (OVR 67 – POT 88)
Team: Olympique Lyonnais
Best Position: CAM
Overall/Potential: 67 OVR / 88 POT
Wage: £2K a week
Best Attributes: 81 Balance, 76 Agility, 75 Dribbling
The second Ligue 1 player to feature on our list is attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki. The former French under-16s international is the youngest of these French wonderkids and has already begun to feature in the first-team.
Cherki became the third-youngest Lyon player to make his debut, behind Willem Geubbels in 2017, and the former 15-year-old debutant Joël Fréchet. The young Frenchman made six appearances last season in Ligue 1 – a count which he has already exceeded this season.
The Lyon-native starts with positive off-the-ball attributes: his 81 balance and 76 agility are very useful, especially if you opt to play the midfielder in wider areas. His 75 dribbling is a great starting point for a 17-year-old and it’ll develop even further during your Career Mode save.
If you’re feeling bold, try to buy Cherki straight off the bat. He will continue to develop with training and could be your go-to attacking midfielder for the future.
Eduardo Camavinga (OVR 76 – POT 88)
Team: Stade Rennais FC
Best Position: CM
Overall/Potential: 76 OVR / 88 POT
Wage: £4.8K a week
Best Attributes: 79 Stamina, 79 Composure, 79 Short Pass
Those who watch Ligue 1 frequently, or are constantly analysing up-and-coming talents, will know of Eduardo Camavinga. Camavinga has been a regular feature at Stade Rennais since making his Ligue 1 debut at 16-years-old.
Last season, the club enjoyed one of their best campaigns, finishing third to ensure that Champions League football would finally be coming to the Roazhon Park. Camavinga played a massive role in the side from Brittany reaching the pinnacle of European football.
As a 76 OVR player in FIFA 21, Camavinga has a strong starting base as a central midfielder. His 79 stamina, 79 composure and 79 short pass are important ratings for a player in the middle of the park. With more development, the French wonderkid can become a star in midfield.
The Angolan-born CM is an exciting prospect and one who is very gettable in Career Mode. As with Cherki, Camavinga would be a great investment for your team, should you move quickly to sign him.
