Playing one-off matches as the best, most defensive, or fastest team is perfectly fine, but the real challenge lies in bringing the best out of the worst teams and most underrated teams. As for Career Mode, one of the best ways to play is by picking the best team to rebuild in FIFA 20 or the best team to get promoted to the Premier League.

Here are some of the teams to keep in mind for one-on-one play and in Career Mode.

FIFA 20 Best Team: Real Madrid

League: La Liga
Transfer Budget: £169.6 million
Defence: 86
Midfield: 87
Attack: 86

One year removed from losing Cristiano Ronaldo to Italian giants Juventus, Real Madrid are back to scrapping for the Spanish Primera title. Leading the league at the 20-game mark by three points, with FC Barcelona trailing by three points with a game in hand and a better goal difference, Real Madrid are back to winning ways.

Led in the goals column by 32-year-old Karim Benzema, there’s more than enough experience and young talent in the Los Blancos squad to be set up for La Liga title battles for many seasons to come.

In FIFA 20, Real Madrid is the joint-best team in the game, with their ‘weakest’ starting XI player being left-back Marcelo, who boasts an 85 overall rating.

In the most recent update roster, Luka Modrić landed as the team’s best player with a 92 overall rating. Close behind are Eden Hazard (91), Thibaut Courtois (91), Toni Kroos (90), and captain Sergio Ramos (89). Vinícius Júnior (79) is also a great player to include in the line-up.

FIFA 20 Best Attacking Team: FC Barcelona

League: La Liga
Transfer Budget: £169.1 million
Defence: 85
Midfield: 85
Attack: 89

FC Barcelona are in a heated battle for the La Liga lead, gunning for the three-peat of Spanish Primera titles. At the time of writing, Barca trailed Real Madrid by a mere victory with a goal difference that was one goal better than their old foes.

Led by, as you would assume, Lionel Messi with 16 goals and nine assists, teammate Luis Suárez was keeping pace on goal contributions with 14 goals and 11 assists before going under the knife after sustaining a knee injury.

In FIFA 20, FC Barcelona are by far the best attacking team in the game. While Real Madrid are quite balanced across the field, the Barça starting XI is much more top-heavy, with the team’s attacking trio being Lionel Messi (94), Luis Suárez (92), and Antoine Griezmann (89).

Marc-André ter Stegen is one of the best goalkeepers in the game with an overall rating of 90, but the game doesn’t rate centre-back Clément Lenglet (84) and Nélson Semedo (82) very highly just yet.

FIFA 20 Best Defensive Team: Inter Milan

League: Serie A
Transfer Budget: £47.7 million
Defence: 86
Midfield: 79
Attack: 83

For the first time in what seems like nearly a decade, Juventus are facing a legitimate threat to the Serie A title, with Inter Milan refusing to quit. In fact, the Nerazzurri have even led Italy’s top division at times this season.

With Antonio Conte at the helm, you would expect the defence to be the main focus of this Inter Milan team; while they lead the league with the fewest goals against (16 against in 19 games), the team’s attack has also been very impressive.

Romelu Lukaku has flourished since his big-money move away from the absurdly-scrutinised role of being a Manchester United player, scoring 18 goals, with young Argentine Lautaro Martínez adding 15 of his own.

In FIFA 20, Inter comes in as the highest-rated defensive team. Helped, in part, by the default formation’s lack of full-backs or wing-backs, Diego Godin (88), Milan Škriniar (86), and Stefan de Vrij (85) combine for a hefty 86 average rating across the backline, buffed further by the 90-rated Samir Handanovic in net.

FIFA 20 Fastest Team: Liverpool

League: Premier League
Transfer Budget: £92.7 million
Defence: 84
Midfield: 83
Attack: 87

Just 21 games into the Premier League season, Liverpool led by a massive 13 points with two games in hand. With a meagre 14 goals against and 50 goals for, the team looks set to win its first-ever Premier League title and first league victory since 1989/90.

The stars of the show all season for Liverpool have been Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Andrew Robertson, holding a solid backline regardless of the opponent. The combined 38 goals from Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino have also been major factors.

In FIFA 20, Liverpool are a very strong side all over the pitch, particularly up top, but the team’s greatest strength is in its speed. Pace has long been one of the most decisive factors in FIFA, with the fastest strikers in FIFA 20 being among the most coveted of all.

With the January signing of Takumi Minamino, the Reds boast six players with a sprint speed attribute rating of 85 or above, with Sadio Mané being the best in this regard (93 sprint speed). The winger also dominates on the acceleration and agility front, too, with a 95 in acceleration and 92 in agility.

FIFA 20 Most Creative Team: Manchester City

League: Premier League
Transfer Budget: £158.4 million
Defence: 84
Midfield: 87
Attack: 87

Having won the Premier League and League Cup two years running, Manchester City are now being left in Liverpool’s wake. That said, the Citizens still boast one of the most creative teams in the world.

One of City’s great strengths is that the team boasts a tremendous amount of depth when it comes to creative players and goal scorers. This season, Kevin De Bruyne already had 17 assists by his 27th appearance, with Riyad Mahrez close behind with 13 assists in 28 games.

If creating perfect goals is your favoured style of play, you can’t go wrong with Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling (89 overall), Bernardo Silva (87 overall), David Silva (88 overall), Kevin De Bruyne (91 overall), Riyad Mahrez (85 overall), Sergio Agüero (89),and Gabriel Jesus (85 overall) will give you more than enough skill to make and finish defence-baffling goals.

FIFA 20 Most Exciting Team: Paris Saint-Germain

League: Ligue 1
Transfer Budget: £166 million
Defence: 84
Midfield: 83
Attack: 88

Given that the team boasts world-class names like Ángel Di María, Marquinhos, Kylian Mbappé, and Neymar, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Paris Saint-Germain are, once again, dominating Ligue 1.

Gunning for their seventh title in eight seasons, by mid-January, PSG are being led by the 21 goals of 21-year-old Frenchman Mbappé, 17 goals from the rejuvenated loanee Mauro Icardi, 13 goals via the boots of Neymar, and another ten from Di María.

As you can tell from the real-life scorers of Paris Saint-Germain, the team is incredibly exciting to use in FIFA 20. PSG can also have the likes of Marco Verratti and Ander Herrera in the middle of the park, Edinson Cavani up top, as well as Julian Draxler and Pablo Sarabia on the wings or in attacking midfield.

FIFA 20 Most Underrated Team: SSC Napoli

League: Serie A
Transfer Budget: £44.4 million
Defence: 81
Midfield: 83
Attack: 84

SSC Napoli have struggled a great deal this season. Considered to be the best of the rest in Serie A over the last few seasons, by the 19-game mark of this season, the Azzurri sat way down in 11th despite boasting a rather talented team.

While the team has let in more than its fair share of goals, with the mix of the young Alex Meret and former Arsenal netminder David Ospina not being very effective, the forwards have struggled to find the back of the net.

As it stands, SSC Napoli is validating the ratings given to its players, but by the end of the season, they should hope to prove FIFA 20 wrong.

The ratings for Dries Mertens (87) and Kalidou Koulibaly (89) are on the mark, but Lorenzo Insigne (85), Hirving Lozano (81), Allan (85), and especially Giovanni Di Lorenzo (73) deserve a bump in their overall ratings.

FIFA 20 Surprise Package: Bayer 04 Leverkusen

League: Bundesliga
Transfer Budget: £35.1 million
Defence: 79
Midfield: 80
Attack: 81

The young guns of Bayer 04 Leverkusen are making waves in the Bundesliga this season. At the halfway point of the season, Leverkusen sat just five points outside of the top four in seventh with a game in hand.

Players like Leon Bailey, Kai Havertz, Nadiem Amiri, Jonathan Tah, and Moussa Diaby have all impressed on the field, with Tah and Amiri being the oldest of that bunch at 23-years-old.

While the team may not be one of the best-rated teams in the Bundesliga on FIFA 20, there’s plenty of exciting talents in the team to make Bayer 04 a top team when in the hands of the right player.

Havertz (84), Bailey (82), Amiri (78), Karim Bellarabi (82), Diaby (77), Exequiel Palacios (78) and the 19-year-old Paulinho (73) are all very fun to use in the game.

FIFA 20 Worst Team: UCD AFC

League: Ireland Airtricity League
Transfer Budget: £450,000
Defence: 53
Midfield: 54
Attack: 54

The 2019 season of the League of Ireland Premier Division (Ireland Airtricity League) concluded on 25 October 2019 and it saw UCD AFC finish rock bottom of the ten-team table.

Finishing the 36-game campaign with five wins, four draws, 27 losses, and a -52 goal difference, University College Dublin finished nine points adrift of the ninth-place relegation playoffs and 18 points from safety.

The six worst teams in FIFA 20 hail from the Ireland Airtricity League, but UCD AFC comes in with a worse average overall rating than Waterford FC, Finn Harps, Cork City, Derry City, and Sligo Rovers.

The team’s best player is 21-year-old central midfielder Jack Keaney, who totes a 58 overall rating. If you want to try to leverage some power in a match-up, you could try turning to the full-backs Isaac Akinsete or Evan Osam as they have decent speed attributes.

FIFA 20 Best Team to Rebuild: Manchester United

League: Premier League
Transfer Budget: £159.3 million
Defence: 80
Midfield: 80
Attack: 83

Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012/13 season, leaving Manchester United as champions of the Premier League, David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, and José Mourinho have all struggled to rebuild the team into a league contender, with a great deal of the blame being placed squarely on executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who runs transfers.

Now it’s former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the hot seat, but in FIFA 20, you can take over from the Norwegian, control transfers, and take the Red Devils back to the top.

The team in FIFA 20 gives any manager coming in a great launchpad to success, with high-potential youngsters like Aaron Wan-Bissaka (89 POT), Anthony Martial (88 POT), Marcus Rashford (88 POT), Mason Greenwood (88 POT), Daniel James (86 POT), Angel Gomes (85 POT), Diogo Dalot (85 POT), Scott McTominay (85 POT), Axel Tuanzebe (84 POT), James Garner (84 POT), and Brandon Williams (83 POT) already in the team.

Alongside the youngsters is a strong core of David de Gea (87 OVR), Paul Pogba (87 OVR), and Harry Maguire (81 OVR).

You can find a few other favourable squad players like Jesse Lingard (76 OVR), Juan Mata (80 OVR), the underrated Andreas Pereira (76 OVR), and Luke Shaw (76 OVR). Other than those, sell the rest and bring in some necessary class with the huge transfer budget available to you.

FIFA 20 Best Team to Get Promoted to the Premier League: West Bromwich Albion

League: English League Championship
Transfer Budget: £16.2 million
Defence: 72
Midfield: 73
Attack: 71

They’ve been on a bit of a slide of late, but West Bromwich Albion have proven themselves to be a powerhouse team in the Championship. Now that Slaven Bilić has had time to gel his new defenders together, the team’s scoring talents are now being supported by a strong backline.

By the 27-game mark, the Baggies led the Championship by a single point, but with a game in hand. Their 50 goals scored to 30 goals against is testament to the many goal-savvy players in the team, with Charlie Austin, Matt Phillips, Hal Robson-Kanu, Kenneth Zohore, Matheus Pereira, and Grady Diangana all pulling their weight in front of goal.

West Brom boasts one of the biggest transfer budgets in the Championship and the joint-best overall team rating – tied with Fulham. While Pereira (76) and Diangana (72) are only on loan, the team boasts plenty of good players for your FIFA 20 Career Mode team.

Romaine Sawyers’ (74) passing attribute ratings are criminally low for his true skill, but they’re still strong for FIFA 20’s rating of the Championship. Plus, the likes of Kyle Edwards (68), Nathan Ferguson (68), and Rekeem Harper (68), are all 21-years-old or younger but strong enough to play and improve in the Championship in FIFA 20.

FIFA 20 Best International Team: France

League: International
Transfer Budget: N/A
Defence: 83
Midfield: 86
Attack: 84

As the reigning World Cup champions, having blown away the competition in Russia, it would be very hard to argue against France being the best team in the world. Further in the country’s favour is that so many of the key players during that tournament were still quite young at the time.

A year-and-a-half on from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, France is still an incredibly strong team. In the ratings shown above, in fact, the only aspect weighing down their mighty attack is the 80-rated Olivier Giroud – but he does work very well as a target man in France’s system.

N’Golo Kanté is easily the best and most effective defensive midfielder in the world, and on FIFA 20, he’s been rewarded with an 89 overall rating. France also has two others in the 89 club: Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann.

Quite possibly the best aspect of the France National Team is all of the players that didn’t make the cut in the presumed starting line-up, such as Nabil Fekir, Ousmane Dembélé, Corentin Tolisso, and Benjamin Mendy.

FIFA 20 Worst International Team: India

League: International
Transfer Budget: N/A
Defence: 60
Midfield: 60
Attack: 63

Having never participated in a FIFA World Cup, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that India is one of the worst teams on FIFA 20.

In fairness, though, India is on the ascendancy, at least concerning official FIFA rankings. In March 2015, India sank to their lowest ever ranking of 173 in the world, but now, India sits in a much-improved 108th, closing in on their best ranking of 94th from February 1996.

In FIFA 20, the Blue Tigers don’t have a lot going for them, with their best outfielder being 34-year-old captain and striker Prakul Bhatt.

A slight edge could, however, be found with left midfielder Adit Ginti’s 80 acceleration, 83 sprint speed, and 72 agility or Bhadrashree Raj’s 75 acceleration, 77 sprint speed, and 81 agility. Omesh Patla in attacking midfield also has some favourable speed stats of 79 acceleration, 76 sprint speed, and 81 agility.

FIFA 20 Best Women’s Team: United States

League: Women’s National
Transfer Budget: N/A
Defence: 83
Midfield: 86
Attack: 87

Since the FIFA Women’s World Cup began in 1991 in China, the United States Women’s National Team has never finished below third place, winning the tournament in 1991, 1999, 2015, and 2019.

The United States are strong all over the field, with even the lowest overall-rated player, Abby Dahlkemper (82), boasting very high ratings in the key attributes for a centre-back.

The best players on the field are Julie Ertz (88) in defensive midfield, Carli Lloyd (88) in central midfield, Becky Sauerbrunn (88) in defence, Tobin Heath (90) on the right wing, and, of course, Megan Rapinoe (93) on the left-wing.

FIFA 20 Worst Women’s Team: Mexico

League: Women’s National
Transfer Budget: N/A
Defence: 74
Midfield: 73
Attack: 76

Mexico missed out on qualification for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup after a shock loss to Panama in the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.

In 2019, the team could only muster four wins, triumphing over Thailand, the Czech Republic, Jamaica, and getting revenge on Panama at the 2019 Pan American Games.

Mexico may be the worst women’s team in FIFA 20, but the team still boasts plenty of decently-rated players.

Captain and striker Charlyn Corral is 82 overall and boasts decent speed ratings, as does right back Kenti Robles, who also has an overall rating of 82 in the game.

Whether you want to rebuild a team like Manchester United, conquer all in your path with a team like FC Barcelona, or take on a challenge and play as a team like UCD AFC, these are the best and worst teams to use in FIFA 20.
