Sweden have
twice landed as runners-up on the major international stage, losing in the
finals of the 1958 World Cup and the 1992 European Championship. When it ran,
Sweden dominated the Nordic Football Championship, winning nine of the 14
contests.
Over the
years, several players have put Sweden on the map, including Henrik Larsson,
Sven Rydell, Gunnar Nordahl, Kim Källström, Anders Svensson, Nils Liedholm, and
the still-active Zlatan Ibrahimović.
The most recent
national team selection featured only two 30-year-olds and ten players aged 23
or younger. A new generation of Swedish football is on the way, with some of
these wonderkids looking to establish themselves as the next great Swedes.
The best
wonderkids from Sweden in FIFA 20 with the highest potential overall ratings
feature in the main body of the article. The prospect pool is rather sparse,
with the bottom of this article being as far as one need look for a young Swede
with high potential in Career Mode.
Choosing FIFA 20 Career Mode’s best Swedish wonderkids
The most
important aspect considered when picking the best Swedish wonderkids in FIFA 20
Career Mode is the potential overall rating.
All players
in the article are 22-years-old or younger at the start of FIFA 20 Career Mode
and have a potential rating of at least 80.
Alexander Isak (OVR 75 – POT 84)

Team: Real Sociedad
Best Position: LF, LS, ST, CF, RF, RS
Age: 19
Overall/Potential: 75 OVR / 84 POT
Value (Release Clause): £9 million (£20.7 million)
Skill Moves: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 85 Sprint Speed, 83 Acceleration, 79 Attacking Position
Alexander
Isak has already played and scored for AIK in Sweden, Borussia Dortmund in
Germany, and Willem II Tilburg in the Netherlands, but he looks to have finally
found his home in Spain, with Real Sociedad.
Moving to
the Basque Country for £5.85 million in the summer, Isak has been a regular
substitute for Real Sociedad in La Liga, scoring seven goals in 23 appearances,
but the young Swede has really made his mark in the Copa del Rey, scoring seven
goals in six games to guide his team to the semi-finals.
The lanky
Swedish striker also has four goals in 11 caps for his country.
In FIFA 20’s
Career Mode, Isak may only have an overall rating of 75, but he still boasts
many favourable ratings. The Swedish striker’s 6’3’’ frame, 83 acceleration, 85
sprint speed, 78 agility, 75 finishing, 74 dribbling, 79 positioning, 77 shot
power, and 77 composure make him a useful player to have in the squad.
Dejan Kulusevski (OVR 70 – POT 83)

Team: Parma Calcio 1913
Best Position: LM, LCM, CM, RCM, RM, RAM, CAM, LAM
Age: 19
Overall/Potential: 70 OVR / 83 POT
Value (Release Clause): £3 million (£7.2 million)
Skill Moves: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 80 Dribbling, 76 Ball Control, 75 Stamina
In the
summer of 2016, Dejan Kulusevski moved from the under-17s of IF Brommapojkarna
to Atalanta Bergamo U17. The talented Swede went out on loan to Parma Calcio
1913 this season, but in the middle of this spell, Juventus swept it to fork
out a mighty £31.5 million for the teenage winger.
Kulusevski
has been a first-team regular for Parma this season. Predominantly featuring on
the right wing, the Swedish wonderkid has scored five goals and seven assists
in 25 games – starting in both of the team’s one-goal losses to Juve.
Given the
fee that Juventus have paid and his impressive displays for Parma this season,
it might come as a surprise that the 19-year-old Swede is only rated 70 OVR and
83 POT in FIFA 20’s Career Mode.
Kulusevski
has many decent ratings already, including his 73 short passing, 80 dribbling,
72 long passing, 76 ball control, 74 acceleration, 74 reactions, 75 stamina,
and 72 long shots.
Mattias Svanberg (OVR 69 – POT 83)

Team: Bologna FC 1909
Best Position: LW, LM, LAM, CAM, RAM, RM, RW
Age: 20
Overall/Potential: 69 OVR / 83 POT
Value (Release Clause): £2.1 million (£4.8 million)
Skill Moves: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 78 Sprint Speed, 77 Acceleration, 76 Agility, 76 Ball Control
Mattias
Svanberg was a standout young player for Malmö FF while he played in his native Allsvenskan, stacking up 47 games,
six goals, and 11 assists from the middle of the park.
Last season, Svanberg enjoyed a good spell in the heart of Bologna’s
midfield, and this season, the 21-year-old has primarily featured as an
attacking midfielder. The Swede has played 40 games for the Serie A side to
date.
Svanberg’s overall rating in FIFA 20 is rather low at the start of Career
Mode, sitting at 69 OVR.
However, the Swede does already have a high/medium work rate, 72 shot
passing, 73 dribbling, 76 ball control, 70 vision, and 71 shot power, which put
him in good stead as a playmaker when he develops into his 83 POT.
Benjamin Nygren (OVR 64 – POT 82)

Team: KRC Genk
Best Position: LAM, CAM, RAM
Age: 17
Overall/Potential: 64 OVR / 82 POT
Value (Release Clause): £825,000 (£1.7 million)
Skill Moves: Two-Star
Best Attributes: 69 Jumping, 67 Acceleration, 66 Ball Control
After
enjoying a strong start to the Allsvenskan season, in which he tallied four
goals and four assists in 12 games for IFK Göteborg, KRC Genk swept in with £3.33 million just in time for the start
of the Belgian campaign.
Opportunities have been sparse for Benjamin Nygren in the Genk ranks,
only being given two Jupiler Pro League games – scoring in one of them.
However, the team have already loaned out five prospects this winter, so Nygren
may be next to dip out of Belgium to get game time.
Although very low in his current overall rating, 64, the 17-year-old
Swedish wonderkid does have some promising attribute ratings.
Nygren’s 65 finishing, 65 short passing, 64 vision, 66 ball control, 65
dribbling, 67 acceleration, 63 strength, and 69 jumping bode well as base
ratings as he develops towards his 82 POT.
