In Career Mode, you can’t always trust your up-and-coming wonderkids from the outset, and sometimes you just need to patch a hole in your line-up for a season or two.
So, when this is the case, you’ll want to turn to players with high overall ratings, but ones who won’t cost you much to acquire. So here, we’re going through the cheapest players in FIFA 22 who have strong overall ratings despite their values.
Who are the cheapest good players in FIFA 22?
You’d be surprised who you can sign at a low cost in FIFA 22, with the likes of Fernandinho, Thiago Silva, and Samir Handanovič being among the cheapest players.
The players here have been selected based on having an overall rating of at least 81 as well as being valued at around £10 million or less.
At the bottom of the article, you’ll find a full list of all of the cheapest players in FIFA 22.
Samir Handanovič (Value: £2.1 million)

Team: Inter Milan
Overall: 86
Wage: £67,000
Best Attributes: 92 GK Positioning, 87 GK Reflexes, 81 GK Handling
Valued at a mere £2.1 million despite his mighty 86 overall rating, Samir Handanovič stands as the best of the cheapest players to sign in FIFA 22 Career Mode, and in the position that many players seek to patch cheaply.
Standing 6’4’’, the 37-year-old is the perfect stop-gap in goal. His 92 positioning, 87 reflexes, 81 handling, and 81 diving help the Slovenian remain a viable first-choice option. You may need to act quickly to land Handanovič, though, as his contract expires in one year, which may prompt him to opt to retire.
While the team’s attack received most of the praise last season, Handanovič’s showings in net were essential to Inter Milan winning Serie A. The club captain kept 15 clean sheets, earning the honour of hoisting the Scudetto to commence the celebrations.
Thiago Silva (Value: £8.5 million)

Team: Chelsea
Overall: 85
Wage: £92,000
Best Attributes: 88 Interceptions, 87 Jumping, 87 Defensive Awareness
The Brazilian stalwart weighs-in as a top pick from the cheapest players in FIFA 22 thanks to his 85 overall rating, but his £8.5 million value does make him one of the more expensive picks on this list.
Still boasting high attributes in key areas for a centre back, Thiago Silva is a great filler along the backline for a season or two. His 88 interceptions, 87 jumping, 87 defensive awareness, 86 standing tackle, and 84 sliding tackle are all very usable, even at 36-years-old.
The Rio de Janeiro-native continues to be a starting XI regular for Chelsea, and even led Brazil to the Copa América final over the summer, captaining his nation once again.
Kasper Schmeichel (Value: £8 million)

Team: Leicester City
Overall: 85
Wage: £98,000
Best Attributes: 90 GK Reflexes, 84 GK Diving, 83 GK Positioning
At 34-years-old, Kasper Schmeichel still has a fair few years ahead of him in net, and so, he may be considered among the most valuable of Career Mode’s cheapest players to add to your squad.
The 85-overall goalkeeper comes into FIFA 22 as a veteran presence, boasting the traits Leadership and Solid Player. More importantly, his 90 reflexes and 84 diving make the Dane a superb shot-stopper.
Few Premier League goalies are as solid as Kasper Schmeichel, with his place in net never being questioned and him always putting in a decent showing over the course of a season. Now wearing the captain’s armband, he’ll try to rally Leicester City after a lacklustre start to the campaign.
Toby Alderweireld (Value: £20.5 million)

Team: Free Agent
Overall: 83
Wage: £57,000
Best Attributes: 87 Stand Tackle, 87 Defensive Awareness, 86 Composure
Toby Alderweireld’s £20.5 million value would seemingly make him ineligible as one of the best cheapest players in FIFA 22, but as he plays in Qatar in real life, he enters Career Mode as a free agent.
The 32-year-old Belgian still carries an 83 overall rating, and as you only need to offer a contract a bit upwards of £55,000 per week (as demonstrated by Fenerbahçe above), Alderweireld is very cost-effective for his rating.
Over the summer, Tottenham Hotspur accepted a £12 million bid from Al-Duhail SC to sign their veteran centre back. As would be expected, Alderweireld immediately became the stud defender for the Stars League side.
Fernandinho (Value: £6 million)

Team: Manchester City
Overall: 83
Wage: £87,000
Best Attributes: 87 Defensive Awareness, 86 Reactions, 86 Aggression
Shifting slightly higher up the pitch to defensive midfield, Fernandinho’s 83 overall rating and £6 million value land him among the best cheap players to sign in Career Mode.
The Brazilian, who can feature as a centre back and in midfield, is still very serviceable in FIFA 22. The 36-year-old’s 85 standing tackle, 87 defensive awareness, 83 short pass, and 81 long pass make him worthy of a starting XI place.
Hailing from Londrina, Fernandinho is still called upon by Pep Guardiola regularly. When he starts, the veteran’s handed the captain’s armband and more commonly retains his place in defensive midfield.
Raphaelinho Anjos (Value: £8.5 million)

Team: Red Bull Bragantino
Overall: 82
Wage: £16,000
Best Attributes: 84 GK Handling, 83 GK Positioning, 82 Reactions
Standing 6’3’’ with an 82 overall rating, Brazilian goalkeeper Raphaelinho Anjos presents himself as a top choice among these cheap Career Mode players. Better still, his wage of £16,000 is so meek that it more than makes up for his slightly high £8.5 million value.
The right-footed goalie is an assured presence in net, with his 84 handling, 83 positioning, and 79 strength helping him to compete for the ball and rarely let it slip.
As EA Sports don’t have the rights to Brazilian league players, Raphaelinho Anjos comes in as one of their generated characters. Still, his 82 overall rating can come of use.
Rui Patrício (Value: £8.5 million)

Team: Roma FC
Overall: 82
Wage: £43,500
Best Attributes: 83 GK Reflexes, 82 GK Diving, 80 GK Handling
Still rated 82 overall and with a valuation of £8.5 million, Rui Patrício adds another goalkeeping option for you to consider on this list of the cheapest players to sign in FIFA 22.
With 83 reflexes, 82 diving, 80 positioning, and 80 handling, the Portuguese shot-stopper is still solid in all of the key areas, and at 33-years-old, he’ll still be a decent starter for a season and a sound back-up option over the next couple of years.
Just as his old manager departed Wolverhampton Wanderers, so too did Patrício, who now finds himself as José Mourinho’s first-choice goalie at AS Roma. Known as Roma FC in FIFA 22, La Lupa paid £10 million to bring in the veteran.
