FIFA 22 Career Mode: Best Cheap Goalkeepers (GK) with High Potential to Sign

We have ALL the best cheap goalkeepers (GK) with high potential ratings on FIFA 22 Career Mode.

The least-used position in FIFA – but perhaps the most important to have at a high overall value – the best goalkeepers not only tend to be expensive, but they’re also often fairly long in the tooth. So, buying a cheap goalie with a high potential rating can pay off tremendously down the line.

Of course, you’ll need to put up with some growing pains as most cheap GKs in FIFA 22 have low overall ratings. Still, given the longevity of the position, the time invested can result in a place in your starting XI being filled for a decade or more.

Choosing FIFA 22 Career Mode’s best cheap goalkeepers (GK) with high potential

Several of the best GK wonderkids in FIFA 22 are playing for lower league clubs and have fairly low overall ratings, making the likes of Lautaro Morales, Doğan Alemdar, and Maarten Vandevoordt prime targets as cheap high potential signings.

To get onto this list of the best cheap high potential goalies in Career Mode, the players had to have a minimum potential rating of 81 and have a maximum value of £5 million.

At the bottom of the piece, you can find the full list of all of the best cheap goalkeepers (GK) with high potential ratings in FIFA 22.

Maarten Vandevoordt (72 OVR – 87 POT)

Team: KRC Genk
Age: 19
Wages: £3,100
Value: £4.2 million
Best Attributes: 74 GK Diving, 73 GK Reflexes, 71 Reactions

Easily the best young goalkeeper to sign in FIFA 22, Maarten Vandevoordt also grades the best cheap GK with high potential by virtue of his bargain £4.2 million value and massive 87 potential rating.

Standing 6’3’’ with 74 diving, 71 reactions, 70 handling, and 73 reflexes, Vandevoordt makes for a decent backup or rotation goalie in the first season of Career Mode. That said, if you can afford to trust him for a whole season, you’ll quicken the Belgian’s development and get to that hefty potential sooner.

Vandevoordt is already playing first-team football in the Jupiler Pro League and the Europa League for KRC Genk. By his 41st game for the side, he’d kept ten clean sheets and had broken into the national team’s under-21 ranks.

Lautaro Morales (72 OVR – 85 POT)

Team: Club Atlético Lanús
Age: 21
Wages: £5,100
Value: £4.4 million
Best Attributes: 74 GK Positioning, 73 GK Reflexes, 71 GK Diving

One of the hidden gem talents still buried in South America, Lautaro Morales is only valued at £4.4 million despite his rather decent 72 overall rating at 21-years-old.

The Argentine shot-stopper starts Career Mode with 71 diving, 73 reflexes, and 74 positioning – and his 70 handling’s not too bad either. Still, his main appeal is his 85 potential rating.

Born in Quilmes, Morales has successfully made his way through the Club Atlético Lanús youth system, breaking out as the team’s go-to Copa de la Liga and Copa Sudamericana goalie last season.

Charis Chatzigavriel (58 OVR – 84 POT)

Team: Free Agent
Age: 17
Wages: £430
Value: £650,000
Best Attributes: 63 GK Reflexes, 59 GK Kicking, 59 Jumping

It’s always fun to find bargain players from nations not known for producing world-class footballers, and free agent Charis Chatzigavriel – with his 84 potential rating – looks to be that signing in FIFA 22.

Being a free agent, the Cypriot netminder is as cheap as they come, even in wage negotiations. As shown above, Club Brugge KV only needed to pay him £430 per week. That said, his 58 overall essentially counts him out from first-team action, but he’s only 17-years-old, so he has plenty of time to develop.

Currently on the books of APOEL Nicosia in the Protathlima Cyta, Chatzigavriel looks to be a feature of the first-team soon, having moved up from the youth team over the summer.

Joan García (67 OVR – 83 POT)

Team: RCD Espanyol
Age: 20
Wages: £2,600
Value: £2 million
Best Attributes: 68 GK Handling, 67 Jumping, 67 GK Reflexes

Standing 6’4’’ with an 83 potential rating and £2 million valuation, Joan Garía ranks among the best cheap GKs with high potential to sign in FIFA 22’s Career Mode.

The Spaniard isn’t first-team ready just yet, with his key goalkeeping attributes remaining in line with his 67 overall rating, but the potential’s there for García to become a trusty netminder.

For Espanyol, the 20-year-old often features on the bench as the back-up goalie to Diego López, but is primarily the B-Team’s starting goalie.

Bart Verbruggen (65 OVR – 83 POT)

Team: RSC Anderlecht
Age: 18
Wages: £430
Value: £1.4 million
Best Attributes: 72 GK Diving, 69 GK Reflexes, 65 GK Kicking

Due to Bart Verbruggen’s overall rating being just 65, you can sign him as a cheap high potential player, with his value sitting at just £1.4 million and his potential being 83.

The Dutchman’s 72 diving and 69 reflexes are already several points up on his overall, so the 6’4’’ GK looks to have the foundations of a shot-stopper. His 65 jumping and 62 strength will help when Verbruggen is called to pounce on an aerial ball.

Last season, Verbruggen was thrust into action as the starting goalie during Anderlecht’s Jupiler Pro League Playoff I spell. This season, he’s entrenched as the back-up to club captain Hendrik van Crombrugge.

Konstantinos Tzolakis (67 OVR – 83 POT)

Team: Olympiacos CFP
Age: 18
Wages: £4,700
Value: £2 million
Best Attributes: 70 Jumping, 69 GK Reflexes, 68 GK Diving

Another 6’4’’ player to break into the top ranks of the best cheap high potential goalkeepers to sign in FIFA 22, Konstantinos Tzolakis is only valued at £2 million – even with his 83 potential rating.

The lanky Greek is already built as a shot-stopper, but not too much to the expense of other key attributes. The 70 jumping, 69 reflexes, and 68 diving lean towards Tzolakis being a reactionary goalie, but his 65 positioning and 64 handling are good enough for him to save the more straightforward attempts safely.

Last season, Olympiacos gave Tzolakis a few starts in Super League 1, and this season, he played every minute of the team’s UEFA Champions League Qualifying run, with a 6-3 penalties loss to Ludogrets Razgrad seeing them drop to the Europa League.

Doğan Alemdar (68 OVR – 83 POT)

Team: Stade Rennais
Age: 18
Wages: £1,200
Value: £2.1 million
Best Attributes: 69 GK Positioning, 69 GK Reflexes, 67 GK Handling

The 83-potential Turkish goalie Doğan Alemdar manages to land securely as a cheap high potential player to buy in Career Mode thanks to his £2.1 million value and equally low wage of £1,200 per week.

The 18-year-old’s 69 positioning, 69 reflexes, 67 handling, 66 diving, and 66 reactions set him up to be a decent goalie in all situations, but one whose attribute ratings closely align to his overall rating. So, for the most part, the attributes look to cap at 84 or 85 when Alemdar hits his potential.

Early in Kayserispor’s 2020/21 Süper Lig campaign, Alemdar was handed the starting gloves, replacing Ismail Cipe in net. He ended up playing 29 games, keeping ten clean sheets, and conceding 35 goals. This earned him a £3.2 million move to Stade Rennais.
